Welcome to the Welcome to the AirWolves a Divisional Charter of the SeaWolves Organization. Those that are old hands of the organization will recall when the SeaWolves found a need for an addition of simulations. This included first person shooters and naval aviation combat simulators. Falcon 4 and Jane’s F/A-18 fit the bill not only for land-based aviation but a key role in carrier-based operations. The stuff all aviators dreamed of “trapping on a carrier”. Jane’s had provided us a taste of this until 1999 (USN Fighters 97, Fighters Anthology to mention a couple). Other combat simulators were used to bring the theater of operations together for the complete aviation experience. This continuation of simulation testing, trial and error, and the penning of one of the most comprehensive training programs for naval aviation at the time. This was only rivaled by the SeaWolves Virtual Navy(the Submarine Surface Division) in personnel. We knew our business and jobs as pilots, instructors and innovators.
At one time the Fleet boasted 1000 members. At any given time we as aviators represented 10 to 20% of the Fleet. With the ebb and flow of personnel at any given moment. We could have represented 30% of active duty personnel prior to my retirement in 2005.
We find ourselves in a new generation of naval aviators since 2008. Our stable of flight simulators are for the most part still “Naval Aviation and Carrier based with a peppering of land based simulations to complete the experience”. These simulations are where rubber meets the road and the Xbox, PS3 and consoles can not compete.
So, “Let’s kick the tires and light the fires”.
